ABOUT ME

MY STORY

I was born during a time of change and uncertainty, with technological innovations on the rise and my country's beliefs and standards being challenged after the attacks of September 11th, 2001. I was fortunate to grow up in a time where technology was not yet as widespread, but had advanced enough that people could document their lives more easily through digital photography and video. By the time I was in high school, iPhones had advanced and taken over the brains of me and all of my peers. The increase in my dependence on devices persisted until I got to college, when I soon realized that the screen that I had been glued to for several years was contributing to my anxiety. It was around the middle of my first year at Wofford College that I took my first college psychology course. My professor, Dr. Nowatka, described how our developing brains are highly susceptible to the addictive nature of technology. Following this discussion, I tried to make a conscious effort to be more present in my daily life, and I soon found that film photography was a tremendous way of doing so.

I started out with disposable cameras that you can find at any local pharmacy or Walmart, and over the years I have progressed to using more vintage and manual film cameras. My current camera is very dear to me, as I bought it in a little hole in the wall camera store on the streets of Barcelona, Spain, last year when I was studying abroad.

I probably process around 36–72 photos every one or two months now, and I try to take my camera everywhere I can. Film photography has truly changed my outlook on life, and I look forward to using this site to integrate it with my "professional" passion, psychology.
